Report: Roland Barthes’ ’Death of an Author’: Presentation by M.A. IInd Years
On the 1st of July, the 2nd year class of Loreto College’s M.A. Department of English, under the guidance of Dr. Niranjan Goswami, organised an online seminar on Roland Barthes. The topic was in relation to his essay ‘The Death of the Author’, where Barthes takes up various influential writers to supplement his argument that the reader’s interpretation of a work is the ultimate, and takes precedence over the author’s design.
The students of the 2nd year class were divided into groups and every group prepared presentations on each of the authors discussed in Barthes’ essay.

The platform for the online seminar was Google Meet, and the entire faculty of the Department of English and M.A. students from both the years attended the session. The presentations were followed by an interactive session where the presenters were questioned by the audience. The teachers also provided valuable feedback and engaged in insightful discussions which enriched the seminar and added to the students’ understanding of their presentations.
