Workshop on Pandemics and Methods of Data Collection: Challenges, Innovation and Lessons Learned



A Workshop on Pandemics and Methods of Data Collection: Challenges, Innovation and Lessons Learned was organized by Social Science Research Council (SSRC), U.S.A in collaboration with the Department of Geography, Loreto College, Kolkata, India on July 27, 2023.

The SSRC Research Team comprised of the Principal Investigator (Professor Soma Chaudhuri, Michigan State University), Co-Principal Investigators (Professor Elizabeth Chacko, The George Washington University, & Professor Bandana Purkayastha, University of Connecticut), Paromita Sanyal (Florida State University), Anand Venkatesh (Institute of Rural Management, Anand), Vidya Anand (Independent Scholar), Jaita Talukdar (Loyola University, New Orleans) and S. Anandhi (Madras Institute of Developmental Studies) conducted the Workshop for the students of the Department of Geography, Loreto College, Kolkata. The Introductory address was delivered by Professor Soma Chaudhuri, Michigan State University and Mrs. Sharmila Ray Kumam, Department of Geography, Loreto College. This was followed by Session II: Education, exposure and experience: The role of the Department of Geography in Human Capital Creation, wherein an enlightening video presentation by the Semester VI students of the Department of Geography on their Field trip to Shashbani- Lateybunga, Dhari Tehsil, Nainital District, Uttarakhand was featured and well appreciated. This was followed by Presentations by six Alumni of the department who shared their experiences with the students and highlighted the best practices of the department. The Workshop concluded with an exchange of ideas and discussions amongst the participants.
