Translation Workshop

The Literary Society of Loreto College, Kolkata organised a translation workshop on September 12, 2024. It was conducted by Dr. Nabanita Sengupta, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Sarsuna College. Dr. Sengupta has been actively involved in translation for years and has published a number of her translated works as well. The workshop began with an introduction to translation, covering its fundamentals, purposes, and scope—legal, medical, textbook, literary, and non-literary translation. Dr. Sengupta also emphasised the career opportunities that can open up for translators. The hands-on session involved translating Bengali and Hindi texts into English, which encouraged enthusiastic participation and lively discussions. The translations were analysed, highlighting the intricacies and challenges of the process.
