Community Engagement through Elderly Care

The Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) Cell organised a visit to Ramkrishna Old Age Home Trust located on Hari Ghosh Street, Shyambazar on January 13, 2024. Six student volunteers from the college offered voluntary service at the Home, which provides shelter and care to approximately 35 elderly citizens.

The volunteers spent an hour interacting with the residents and asking them about their daily lives. They helped the staff serve tea to the elderly and also discussed the activities the residents engage in during their leisure time. Most of them revealed that they enjoyed watching television and having conversations with one another.

The students were deeply inspired by the life stories of the elderly citizens and realised the importance of spending time with their loved ones. They also suggested that elderly care programmes be included in the curriculum of the institution, so that they may be exposed to such transformative experiences on a more regular basis.
