On March 14, 2024, 12 student members and two staff advisors of the Library Society of Loreto College, Kolkata visited the Kolkata Police Limelight Library and Museum. The group’s first stop was the Kolkata Traffic Police Museum, where Inspector Somnath Mukhopadhyay led the students on a tour through the exhibits and information boards. These displays showcased the history of the Kolkata Police Force and the city. Among the fascinating antiques were an early version of a kerosene-powered traffic light and the forerunner of pedestrian crossings. Following the museum tour, the group proceeded to the Limelight Library, which contained five rooms housing a diverse collection of books. Literature, self-help guides, autobiographies, competitive exam resources, and a dedicated children’s section were just some of the categories available. The library even boasted a section specifically focused on Supreme Court cases.

The excursion concluded with a vote of thanks expressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police Wireless Branch and Inspector Somnath Mukhopadhyay for their gracious hospitality in allowing the group to explore the library and for providing them with their knowledgeable guidance.
