Participation in the Pride Month Celebration at American Center



Students of the Department of Education, Loreto College, Kolkata were invited by the American Center, Kolkata on June 24, 2024 as part of the celebration of Pride Month. The theme of the celebration was “Embracing Culture of Inclusivity.” The award-winning film Sheer Qorma, written and directed by Mr. Faraz Arif Ansari, was screened. Sheer Qorma, a story of belonging, acceptance, inclusion, identity, and family, moved the audience with its theme of embracing diversity. This was followed by a panel discussion where Ms. Elizabeth Lee (Director of American Center, Kolkata), Dr. Debika Guha (Associate Professor, Department of Education, Loreto College), Mr. Faraz Arif Ansari (internationally acclaimed filmmaker), Mr. Sujoy Prosad (popular theatre, television, and film personality), Ms. Deepa Shah (social entrepreneur, counsellor, and wellness professional), and Ms. Vivienne Sarky (professional photographer) engaged in a thought-provoking conversation. The panel discussion highlighted the themes of diversity, equity, gender identity, and inclusion and critically discussed the social and educational implications of these issues. Students of Loreto College participated in the interactive session, which also involved students of other institutions. The event exposed the students to awareness of various issues related to diversity and the need for sensitivity, understanding, acceptance, and celebration.
