A Celebration of Leadership - The Handover Ceremony of the Student Council



On May 24, 2024, Loreto College, Kolkata organised A Celebration of Leadership, the annual handing over ceremony of the Student Council. The event was attended by the students, faculty, non-teaching staff, and the Acting Teacher-in-Charge of Loreto College, Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala. Sr. Powlin, Superior, Loreto House graced the prestigious occasion as the Chief Guest. It was a significant event where the outgoing Student Council for the session 2023–24 passed on the baton to the newly elected Student Council for the session 2024–25.

The event began on an auspicious note with the lighting of the lamp. All the members of the Student Council, including the Student President and Vice-President, the office bearers of the college societies, and the third-year class representatives of all departments placed their lamps around the beautiful alpana drawn in front of the stage by members of the Art and Craft Society. The outgoing Student President Khadeeja Jamil then handed over the college flag to the newly appointed President Sanjula Shanker, in a symbolic ritual signifying the transfer of responsibility and leadership. The outgoing Vice-President Harshita Sharma also handed over the torch of leadership to the newly elected Vice-President Tanushua Goswami. The Student Council collectively delivered their message of thanksgiving, vowing to carry the legacy of Loreto College forward and conveying their best wishes to their successors. This was followed by the valedictory speech, delivered by Khadeeja Jamil and Harshita Sharma, where they shared their varied experiences during the past academic year.

The Chief Guest, Sr. Powlin, awarded certificates of recognition and special mementoes to all members of the Student Council in acknowledgement of their hard work, dedication, and exemplary leadership. The event concluded with an encouraging speech by Sr. Dr. Nirmala and the singing of the Loreto Chorus, marking a collective commitment to upholding the values of the institution and keeping the Loreto banner flying high.
