Insights from a Transformation: The Experience of an Indian Student in the UK



The Department of Psychology at Loreto College, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), hosted a webinar led by Ms. Annweshaa Chatterjee, an alumna of Loreto College, on April 9, 2024. Having graduated in 2023, Ms. Chatterjee served as the President of the Student Council during her time at Loreto College and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at the University of Leeds.

The session, titled “Insights from a Transformation: Sharing My Experience as an Indian Student in the UK,” was a profound journey into Ms. Chatterjee’s experiences and learnings. She meticulously curated a presentation that delved into the myriad aspects of applying to universities abroad, starting with the critical step of identifying one’s academic interests.

Ms. Chatterjee then elaborated on the crucial process of selecting the right course and university, emphasising the pivotal role of a well-crafted Statement of Purpose in showcasing one’s unique qualities and suitability for the program. She also shed light on the contrasting academic landscapes of the UK and India, highlighting the emphasis on lectures, seminars, and workshops in the UK, which nurture independence and critical thinking among students.

The session concluded with an engaging interactive session, where Ms. Chatterjee graciously addressed students’ queries regarding life in the UK, funding options for education, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle abroad. Her insights and advice provided valuable guidance to students aspiring for higher education opportunities abroad.
