On February 14, 2020 the Women’s Studies Society of Loreto College in collaboration with Basanti Debi College and The Bhawanipur Education Society College organized a panel discussion on Social Injustice: Issues, Challenges and Proposed Suggestions for Gender Equality. The panelists comprised of Prof Paromita Chakravarti, Dept of English Jadavpur University, Prof Ishita Mukhopadhyay,Dept of Economics Calcutta University and Prof Manabi Majumdar, Director of The Centre for Studies in Social Sciences with Prof Sanjukta Dasgupta,former Dean, Faculty of Arts Calcutta University moderating the session. The panelists range covered multiple socio – economic and political issues including the recent Me Too movement showcasing the state of injustice meted out to women. The discussion centered round the idea of feminism still being relevant in the current patriarchal scenario. The panelists deliberated on less women being represented in the organized sector though there were more women in higher education than before, however even with education there were not enough women representatives in politics. The Chairperson pointed out how students in convents could be outside patriarchy in their schools and colleges and could carve out a niche for themselves. The session was attended by students and staff of Loreto College along with teachers and students from other colleges who were much enriched by the proceedings
