On November 26, 2019, the History Department of Loreto College in collaboration with the Raja Rammohan Roy Foundation Library observed Constitution Day to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of India. The occasion was graced by eminent personages including the Chairman of the RRRLF and Director General of The Anthropological Survey of India. The celebrations commenced with the felicitation of Sr. Dr. Christine Coutinho Principal, Loreto College, along with the honouring of the dignitaries by the Principal who in her Welcome Address reiterated the liberal values envisaged by the makers of the constitution and reminded the gathering about their obligation towards upholding the values of the constitution.
The inaugural session was followed by an intra-college debate with six participants. The motion was Fundamental Rights Have Taken Precedence over Fundamental Duties in Contemporary India. Ritangsha Banerjee who spoke against the motion was adjudged the best speaker while laurels went to the team which had spoken for the motion. The Chairman of the RRRLF spoke of the immense contribution of Raja Rammohan Roy not only in the history of Bengal but on the entire country. The celebrations culminated with the Chairman of the Foundation handing over the limited edition of the facsimile of the manuscript original constitution of India.
