CV Writing Workshop
On 5th March 2025, the Placement Cell of Loreto College and the Department of B.Ed., in collaboration with the Public Relations Society of India, organized a workshop on CV writing titled Step Up: Turbocharge Your Career and Confidence for the final-semester students of the Department of B.Ed. The session aimed to equip students with essential skills for crafting professional CVs, a crucial step as they prepare to embark on their teaching careers.
The workshop commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of the esteemed resource persons, Mr. Soumyajit Mahapatra, Chairman of the Public Relations Society of India, Kolkata Chapter, and Ms. Jharna Bhattacharjee, a distinguished model, actress, elocutionist, and lyricist.They were introduced by Dr. Mainak Bhattacharjee. Dr. Mitra and the Class Representative and Sub-Representative presented them with tokens of appreciation on behalf of the college as a mark of gratitude for their time and valuable insights.
The session began on an inspiring note with a recitation and motivational words by Ms. Bhattacharjee, setting a reflective and encouraging tone for the workshop. This was followed by an engaging icebreaker activity conducted by Mr. Mahapatra, who immediately established a connection with the students by using humour and warmth.
Mr. Mahapatra then proceeded with the core session on CV writing, emphasizing the significance of presentation, posture, personal styling, and social media presence in shaping a candidate’s professional image. He provided a comprehensive overview of the key aspects of an effective CV, including the do’s and don’ts of CV writing, the importance of using reliable templates, navigating job search platforms, incorporating industry-specific keywords, understanding the structure of a CV, and common reasons why CVs get rejected.
Drawing from his extensive experience as a recruiter, he illustrated these points with real-life examples and practical insights, making the session both informative and relatable. He further encouraged students to actively participate in various professional and extracurricular activities to enhance their CVs and broaden their career opportunities.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Mainak Bhattacharjee, who expressed sincere appreciation to the resource persons for their time, expertise, and invaluable guidance. The students, in turn, conveyed their gratitude for the enriching session, which provided them with practical strategies to improve their CVs and confidently approach the job application process.
As the final-semester students prepare to transition into the professional world, this workshop proved to be a timely and highly beneficial initiative, equipping them with essential skills and insights that will undoubtedly aid them in their careers.
