Computer Department


The Computer Department is one of the most vibrant departments in the college. The department follows a distinctive up-to-date curriculum involving concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Empowerment with the aim to equip the students with theoretical and analytical skills as well as thorough knowledge and expertise in the latest state-of-the art techniques in Information and Technology, so that the students could work proficiently in diverse areas. The department also deals with the fundamental as well advanced aspects on the proper utilization of the diverse array of Computer Applications in the technology processes maintained in the various industries.
The objective of the courses offered by the Department is to enable a student to acquire the knowledge relating to fundamentals of Information Technology, Use of IT Tools and Business Systems, Internet Technology and Web design, Multimedia, ICT Resources and use of LMS in their classroom presentations, practical and project work. This initiative continues to contribute to the College’s e-learning activities. The academic programme of the department are in accordance with its vision and mission keeping in view the employment demands and need of entrepreneurship development.
Advanced course modules on coding like C, C++, Java and Web Designing programmes like HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Python is offered based on the fundamental coursework to provide in depth knowledge of core information technologies of human computer interaction, information management, programming, networking and web systems.

Apart from the University curriculum, add-on certificate courses are also offered to the teacher trainees of the B.Ed. Department.
The Department also participates in the community services by teaching the students of the Women’s Cell of the college and contribute in women empowerment.


Department: Faculty

Ms. Chandrani Sengupta

Qualifications: MCA, PGCACS, CBM

Ms. Chandrani Sengupta is currently Head of the Department of Computer, Loreto College. She is also a Teacher Educator in the B. Ed Department of the College. She has qualified her M.C.A degree with a First class degree with specialization on Database Programming and Database Management Systems. She is the Coordinator of the IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial Project, an initiative of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD, Government of India, to promote IT literacy through Free Open Source Software (FOSS). Ms.Sengupta actively participates in outreach activities by teaching students of Women’s Cell with the objective of providing computer education to empower young women from underprivileged backgrounds. She is also the Staff Advisor of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the College.

Ms. Chinmoyee Ray

Qualifications: B.Tech., B.Ed.

Ms. Chinmoyee Ray is an Electronics & Communication Engineer and has completed her B.Ed. in Special Education. She is proficient in various programming languages such as Java, C++ and HTML.
