World Happiness Day 2025

In celebration of World Happiness Day, the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Loreto College, Kolkata collaborated with the Art and Craft Society to organise a community engagement initiative at Kalanga Bhoot Gally, Kolkata on March 26, 2025. The event aimed to spread joy and positivity through artistic expression and social engagement. The initiative was marked by the esteemed presence and support of Mrs. Sushmita Bhattacharya, the Councillor of Park Street, who appreciated the efforts of the students in bringing about a positive change in the local community.

A team of 12 dedicated volunteers participated in this creative endeavour, working together to transform a section of the locality through art. The volunteers painted a wall with two distinct themes: one side depicted the colours of the sun, symbolising energy, hope, and new beginnings, while the other side portrayed the colours of the moon, representing calmness, reflection, and peace. This artistic representation aimed to highlight the balance between light and darkness in life, reinforcing the message that happiness can be found in all phases of existence.

The event not only allowed students to showcase their creativity but also engaged the local community, who warmly welcomed the initiative. Passers-by and residents appreciated the transformation of their neighbourhood space into a vibrant and meaningful artistic expression. The Councillor of Park Street also actively participated by adding a few strokes to the wall, symbolising community bonding and shared creativity in spreading happiness.

The event concluded with a sense of accomplishment and joy among the participants. The NSS volunteers and Art and Craft Society members successfully utilised art as a tool for community development and happiness, leaving a lasting impression on the locality.
