Career Counselling Session for Economics Students



The Career Counselling Cell of Loreto College, Kolkata organised an insightful session titled "Career Counselling for Economics Students" exclusively for the students of the Department of Economics on March 24, 2025.

Mr. Ajitesh Prasad, Joint Admission Officer at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata, commenced the discussion by highlighting the essence of making informed career choices. He underscored the significance of aligning personal aptitudes with professional aspirations in order to navigate the increasingly competitive job market of the present day.

The session then transitioned to an engaging presentation by Dr. Sayantan Bandhu Majumder, faculty at St. Xavier's University, Kolkata. Dr. Majumder meticulously delineated the diverse career opportunities available to Economics graduates, spanning academia, research, public service, and the private sector. He elaborated on avenues such as data analytics, research associate, and policy research roles at institutions like NITI Aayog, NCAER, IEG, and other esteemed organisations.

An interactive session followed, wherein students engaged in discourse with the resource-person, clarifying their doubts and understanding the importance of upskilling, continuous career planning, and the relevance of practical competencies, including field surveys and statistical applications. The session provided valuable insights into the necessity of integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world expertise to enhance employability.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Mainak Bhattacharjee, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Loreto College, who expressed sincere gratitude to the esteemed speakers for their guidance. The session proved to be an enriching experience, with the proactive participation of students, equipping them with the knowledge to make strategic career decisions in the ever-expanding field of Economics.
