Loreto College Foundation Day 2025



Loreto College, Kolkata marked its Foundation Day (February 2, 1912) with a vibrant and meaningful celebration on February 4 and 5, 2025 that showcased the institution's commitment to empowering women and fostering a sense of community. The event commenced with a cleanliness drive on February 4, with around 54 students joining hands to clean parts of the South Park Street Cemetery.

The celebrations on February 5 began with the lightning of the lamp by several dignitaries, including the chief guest Ms. Sushmita Bhattacharya, the local councillor and Ms. Nandini Bhattacharya, Director, Loreto Higher Education Board. This was followed by a prayer and an energetic opening dance performance that set the tone for the day. The audience then watched a video on the evolution of the college made by students of the Cine Society. Winners of various online competitions conducted for the occasion, including Hackathon, Digital Poster Making, and Creative Writing, were announced. The celebrations also included a sapling planting event.

Sr. Dr. A. Nirmala, Teacher-in-Charge of Loreto College, addressed the gathering, sharing her wisdom and inspiring the students to strive for excellence. Her words were followed by heartfelt testimonials from two young members of the Loreto College Women's Cell, who expressed their gratitude to the institution for supporting them in their educational journey. A lively group dance performance by the young girls of the Women's Cell added a splash of colour and energy to the event. The first half of the celebration concluded on a high note, with the audience eagerly looking forward to the second half.

The second segment featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with four esteemed guests: Dr. Julie Banerjee Mehta (moderator), Sravasti Datta, Chandrani Dutta and Raka Mukherjee -all former students of Loreto College who shared their insights on the institution's role in fostering gender sensitivity and environmental sustainability. The discussion also highlighted the institution's efforts in providing a supportive environment that encourages women to step out of their comfort zones and make their mark in the world.

The announcement of the winners of the drawing competition held for the children of Rainbow Homes added a touching moment to the celebration, showcasing the institution's commitment to giving back to the community. Sinjini Roy's soulful song filled the auditorium with warmth and emotion. The collective singing of the Loreto Chorus brought an end to the meaningful and memorable programme.
