The programme started with a warm welcome to the guests. Mrs. Uma Ahmed, with a long association with Loreto House and the founder member of the ‘Teachers Centre’, was presented the Laxmi Chatterjee Memorial Award for her spectacular contribution. She shared memories of her association with the institution. Her address was followed by a presentation by Ms. Shraboni Sarkar Neogi of ‘Hamari Muskan’, and who is actively working to prevent human trafficking and rescuing victims. Every day a large number of girls are forced into prostitution. She explained the viscous cycle of misfortunes that such women endure. She appealed to us as bright young minds and future leaders to heal the world and make it a better place for women. It was an enlightening experience for us as we understood the plight of women in present times and our role to eradicate the offence.
