International Women’s Day at Loreto College

On 11th March 2015(a few days later than the day, for practical reasons), Loreto College celebrated International Women’s Day in collaboration with Rotary Renaissance and Career DNA. The programme started with a felicitation of an ex- student of the college, Mrs Sunanda Bose, who was presented the Laxmi Chatterjee Memorial Award for her life-time contribution in the field of women empowerment and upliftment. Mrs Bose has worked for the emancipation of disadvantaged women, women in red-light areas and girls who are trafficked, especially from Bangladesh.

In the latter half of the programme was an interactive session with resource persons from the Rotary organisation who provided us, the students with an idea about the need and significance of "Stree Shakti"(Women Empowerment) in the present scenario. The brain-storming discussion that followed included topics like: The qualities that an individual must possess regarding future goal (Passion, zeal, courage, tenacity, knowledge, analysis and execution), a set of choices with regards to the funding for such future enterprises and a technical approach to deal with the working world. In the concluding session suggestions were given for a successful working career. The programme was an enriching experience for us, the students of Loreto College.
