Interactive Session on Upcoming Presidential Election in America
The Department of Political Science, in collaboration with the American Center, organised an interactive session on September 7th, 2016 on the upcoming Presidential Election in America.
The Department was honoured to have Senator Wayne Harper, a Utah State Senator (Republican Party) and Mrs. Aruna Miller, a Maryland House Delegate (Democratic Party) as panelists. Mr. Greg Pardo, Assistant Public Affairs Officer, U.S. Consulate Kolkata, moderated the panel; the programme was coordinated by Ms. Angelina Nair, Alumni of the college and Coordinator, U.S. Consulate, Kolkata.
It is was indeed an enriching session wherein the speakers shared their perspectives on key issues regarding elections in the United States, thus offering insights on their respective partys role in world politics. The interactive session that followed evoked a large number of questions from the students. Each question was answered both by Senator Harper and Delegate Miller, giving their individual party perspective. Of particular interest were the questions on Donald Trumpís candidature. While Delegate Miller was very categorical about how Donald Trump was responsible for dividing the American society, Senator Harper was noncommittal and diplomatic.
An interesting and enlightening session, indeed!
