Independence Day Celebration
70th Independence Day of the country was celebrated in the college amidst reverence and remembrance. We all gathered to hoist the national flag. This was followed by the tribute to our Mother India with the deliverance of the National Anthem. A special ‘prayer service’ was conducted by the AICUF Society of the college to pray for the harmony and peace of our nation. The college was draped in the hues of the tricolor-orange, green and white.
Dr Sayantani Chatterjee delivered a speech which traced the history of India back to the times when India was under the British colonial rule and how India evolved and changed with the times culturally and socially to its present condition. A moving performance of the “The Waving Flag” sung by all the participants, with its catchy beats and words like “They call me freedom, just like the Waving Flag” brought tears to our eyes as we could visualize the picture of the Indian tricolor, waving against the blue sky, speaking of ‘freedom’ and ‘victory’. Mesmerizing dance on the musical version of the poem “Chitto Jetha Bhoyshunno” written by Kavi Guru Rabindranath Tagore, a recitation of “Bharat Mata Ka Mandir” written by poet Maithili Sharan Gupt, a dance recital on the Rhythmscape, showcasing the Odissi and Bharatnatyam classical dance forms and a skit showcasing the burning issue of ‘corruption’ plaguing the country with rays of hope were the high points of the days performance. The students of B.Ed. of the college ensured that the Independence Day Celebration was a success.
The closing speech by Sister Christine, our Principal made us feel proud to be a part of the Indian culture. It was an eventful day for us as our resolves became stronger to bring positive changes in the society and the nation.
