Staff Development Seminar 2016

A two days’ Annual Staff Development Seminar, ‘Re-imagining and Re-imaging Higher Education for 21st Century: A Loreto Perspective’ was held on 15th and 16th April, 2016. The resource person, Fr. (Dr.) Paul Pudussery, Head, Department of Education, Assam, Don Bosco University, Guwahati and Research Fellow with Indian Council of Social Science Research, deliberated on the role of a faculty in the 21st century. In a world brimming with digital natives, connecting with the students as facilitators of learning is a huge challenge. Fr. Paul dwelt on the social network and role of media in a changing scenario. The five Cs for success in education in the 21st century – creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, computational thinking - will further enhance relevance in tertiary education, for students seek progressively more customized information.

Fr. Paul opined that the ability to ‘unlearn’ the past is important today, where the structure of knowledge is moving from compartmentalization to holistic. He urged the teachers to think out of the box and take risks. He spoke of the need for quality research in higher education and shared important information for the researchers. He provided fine-tuned insights into academic paper writing for funding agencies for research projects. The faculties present were also introduced to innovative powerpoint slide designing and formatting techniques. Both days of the seminar were interactive with teachers voicing their points of view on topical issues and were much appreciated.
